Port Macquarie, located on the Mid North Coast of NSW, boasts 17 beautiful and extensive beaches. It has some of the best swimming and surfing spots between Sydney and Brisbane. The other features like the Billabong Zoo, good climate throughout the year, and cruises in the river make it the best holiday destination for the entire family.

The world’s first festival celebrating the koala, Hello Koalas Festival, started in 2017 and is held here every September. This is a tribute to the largest koala population on the east coast of Australia. Port Macquarie has one of the most unusual attractions for families with kids and nature lovers- a koala hospital. It is a must-visit for people of all ages and is located near the town center. They rehabilitate injured koalas and joeys. Another great attraction is the ‘Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail,’ where you can discover more than 80 fiberglass koalas placed around the area. These are all hand-painted by local artists.

Port Macquarie Airport is 4 km from the town and has flights to Sydney and Brisbane. The city does not have a train station, but the Wauchope railway station is only 17 km away from the district. Kendall railway station is also only 30 km away. You can get connected buses and shuttles to the town. You can also drive down using the Pacific and Oxley Highways. The town is small, but there is something for everyone to do and enjoy.

NRMA Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park

This award-winning, family-owned park is just a short distance from the main shopping center and wonderful eateries. The Murray River is a short drive away as is the heart of the town. The park makes for a perfect base to explore the various attractions in and around Mildura. The park has multiple types of accommodation to suit all budgets and family sizes. There is a range of powered and large drive-thru caravan sites as well.

The view from the park is breathtaking, and you can hear the ocean’s waves against the breakwall when it is calm.

Leisure Tourist Park Port Macquarie

This is a relatively quiet, sub-tropical park a little away from the main road. The airport is close to the park, and some people may find it convenient. There are no flights during the night due to the noise curfew. Driving down, you can turn off from the Pacific Highway at Hastings River Drive and reach the Leisure Tourist Park very quickly. It is located opposite the Port Macquarie Hibbard Sports Club. It was previously known as Panthers Sports & Bowling Club.

You can walk to the river easily, and the town center is some 3 km from the park. It is a very short drive to the beach.

Its central location and a saltwater pool are great attractions to this park.

Riverside Resort @ Port Macquarie

As the name suggests, it is next to the river. It has two kinds of stays available for people: motel and caravan parks with sites. The caravan park is closed due to floods in the area but will reopen soon, and the motel is functional. You can start your day by the side of the river and ocean breeze and the calmness of the surrounding away from the sounds and bustle of the city. You can fish around the jetty or hire a boat. Another attraction is boat cruises for dolphin spotting and exploring Port Macquarie. The caravan park and the resort are located opposite the river, but the beach is not too far. The waterside park is fully serviced, but they do not have campsites.

Flynns Beach Caravan Park

This caravan is very special due to its proximity to a natural reserve where you can meet wild animals while also very close to the beach. The caravan park has been run by a family for many decades now and is budget-friendly. The beach near the park provides easy access to jet skiing, joy-flights to the different parts of the town, fishing, and boat cruises. You can play golf or tennis also if you are a sports buff. It is less than a km away from the famous Koala Hospital. Flynn Beach and Shelly Beach are less than one km from the park.

Edgewater Holiday Park

Edgewater Holiday Park is another special place that offers direct access to the open seas while facing the Hastings River directly. The added advantage is the expanse of the park extending to 8.5 acres. You can fish from the wharf at the park or relax on the beach. You can sit on the beach and grill the fish you catch on the barbeque provided by the park. It does not allow pets into the area. They have some sports equipment like basketball hoops and a mini-golf course.
